Ding Lei was still shaken. She kept checking her arms and wrists, her calves and thighs, not even bothering to maintain any distance from Jiang Yue.

A beautiful young woman no longer bothering to keep her distance from a man showed just how thoroughly her recent experiences had destroyed her self-respect and sense of shame.

Faced with life and death, none of that mattered anymore.

Lin Yifei had clearly learned from A'Ping's experience and didn't trust Ding Lei.

She muttered, "Little Jiang, you really couldn't resist playing the hero and rescuing a damsel in distress, could you?"

Jiang Yue smiled wryly. "Sister Ding Lei is my sister's best friend. Even if she were lying to me, I couldn't just leave her to die."

Of course, Jiang Yue's Heart-Peeking Technique wasn't a joke.

He was 99 percent certain that Sister Ding Lei hadn't crossed that last line and hadn't joined forces with Zhu Yindong.

But Jiang Yue didn't explain.

He knew that trying to explain himself to a girl who already had her mind made up would get him nowhere.

If anything, the more he explained, the worse it would sound, and the more emotional she would get.

Lin Yifei looked Ding Lei up and down. She was several years older than Lin, but Lin didn't seem particularly hostile toward her.

A girl's thoughts really could be unpredictable.

Earlier, when she'd seen Jiang Yue risk his life to rescue Ding Lei on his own, she'd felt a little jealous.

But once she learned Ding Lei's age and found out she was Jiang Yue's sister's best friend, that little feeling mysteriously disappeared.

She giggled. "Hi, Sister Ding Lei. I'm Lin Yifei. Nice to meet you."

Ding Lei slowly came back to her senses and managed to force out a faint smile. "Hello.
