First Soul Skill: Dragon Roar
At the center of the mountain hollow, dust and smoke billowed, obscuring what was happening. All they could make out were bolts of lightning darting within and roars echoing out.
A few minutes later, the dust dispersed. The Thunderstorm Claw Dragon at the center was tightly clamped in the jaws of a black shadow. Before long, a bright yellow Soul Ring emerged from the Thunderstorm Claw Dragon's corpse.
The black shadow turned to look at the two of them. It was a creature similar to the Thunderstorm Claw Dragon, except slightly larger, with a pair of dragon wings on its back. It opened its bloody maw and roared at them.
Lightning crackled around its body, as though it would charge at them the very next second.
Liu Yanyang stood somewhat dazed. This was the first time he had seen such a bloody scene.
Meanwhile, Yang Wudi tightened his grip on his Martial Soul. His third Soul Ring immediately lit up, and black flames rose from the Soul Breaking Spear, clinging to its blade.
He threw the spear, pinning the black shadow firmly to the ground. Yang Wudi then slapped Liu Yanyang on the back of the head.
The slap brought Liu Yanyang back to his senses. Seeing Yang Wudi already walking toward the center, he hurriedly followed.
As they approached, they saw the Soul Beast struggling desperately on the ground, its face full of unwillingness as it roared at them.
Both of them fell into thought. "It is probably around eight hundred years old. With wings on its back, this can only mean it is a Thunderstorm Claw Dragon with True Dragon Bloodline," Yang Wudi said.
Liu Yanyang nodded repeatedly beside him, his blood boiling with excitement.
"Kid, an eight-hundred-year top-tier Soul Beast with True Dragon Bloodline. Are you sure you want to absorb it instead of choosing another one?"
"If you can't withstand it and go boom, you'll have nothing left!"
"No, Senior. This is the one," Liu Yanyang said confidently.
He immediately summoned the Dragon Roar Spear. Its tip pierced straight through the Thunderstorm Claw Dragon's eye and plunged into its brain.
The Thunderstorm Claw Dragon let out a mournful cry. After struggling a few times, it fell still.
Liu Yanyang pulled out the Dragon Roar Spear, and a deep yellow Soul Ring emerged from the corpse.
Without any unnecessary movement, he guided the Soul Ring toward himself. Liu Yanyang sat cross-legged and began absorbing it.
As the Thunderstorm Claw Dragon's Soul Ring drew near, he felt an unprecedented pressure. Even the bones throughout his body made faint cracking sounds beneath it.
The Soul Ring shrank into an incomparably solid golden ring, no larger than a bracelet, and settled directly onto the Dragon Roar Spear Martial Soul in his right palm.
Liu Yanyang felt as though his right hand had been plunged into magma. A scorching energy flooded in madly, and violent heat surged into his body. In an instant, his insides felt like they were burning, and his body began trembling violently.
What domineering power...
The rushing Soul Ring power washed over Liu Yanyang's body in an instant. Fortunately, such blazing energy did not burst his body apart. Whale Rubber and Dragon Ganoderma had truly done him a great service.
His consciousness suddenly brightened. Liu Yanyang seemed to see himself immersed in a sea of flames, while the Dragon Roar Spear stood within it, emitting low hums.
Is this the Inner Vision Realm? It happened when Tang San absorbed the Mandala Snake's Soul Ring in the original novel as well. It seemed to require sufficient Spiritual Power. It looks like the memories from two lifetimes have made my Spiritual Power far surpass that of ordinary people, no weaker than Tang San's.
The comfort brought by absorbing a Soul Ring was indescribable, as though he were floating weightlessly among the clouds, or entering the peak of bliss.
All thirty-six thousand pores across his body opened wide, greedily breathing in the wonderful air. The qualitative transformation was already bringing strange changes to Liu Yanyang's body.
Liu Yanyang discovered that his body had become more robust, to the point that his clothes seemed somewhat tight. He had grown a little taller, his skin had become fairer and more lustrous, and purple lightning flashed through his eyes.
When he opened his eyes, it was already deep into the night. Yang Wudi was beside the campfire, standing guard for him.
"Well, kid, congratulations on surviving," Yang Wudi teased.
"Thank you for guarding me, Senior." Liu Yanyang rose and bowed.
Yang Wudi waved a hand casually. "Are you satisfied with your Soul Skill?"
"Yes, it's very strong. My Soul Skill is..." Just as Liu Yanyang was about to describe it—
Yang Wudi interrupted him directly. "Has no one told you not to voluntarily reveal your Soul Skills to others, and not to ask about other people's Soul Skills either?"
Liu Yanyang smiled. "I've entrusted my life to you, Senior. Why would I care about that?"
As soon as he finished speaking, the first Soul Ring beneath his feet lit up. The tip of the Dragon Roar Spear in his right hand gleamed silver, purple electric arcs spread across its shaft, and waves of humming came from the spear. His body also felt somewhat lighter.
"My first Soul Skill is called Dragon Roar. It inherited the Thunderstorm Claw Dragon's lightning power. The Dragon Roar Spear contains lightning; every attack on an enemy causes paralysis and disrupts the enemy's Soul Power circulation. It also increases attack power by 80% and my movement speed by 100%."
Yang Wudi was somewhat stunned. Was this the benefit of absorbing a Soul Ring beyond one's level? This first Soul Skill could already rival someone else's third Soul Skill.
"As expected of a top-tier dragon Soul Beast. A mere hundred-year cultivation can increase a Weapon Soul's attack power by 80%, nearly doubling it," Yang Wudi said with emotion.
Liu Yanyang thought the same. After all, Sword Douluo Chen Xin's first Soul Skill—Long Sword's Edge—only increased attack power by 30%.
His was nearly three times that. One had to know that Weapon Souls differed from Beast Martial Souls. Even when absorbing the same type of offensive Soul Beast, the attack power increase of a Weapon Soul was far lower than that of a Beast Martial Soul.
Looking at the high-spirited Liu Yanyang, Yang Wudi's eyes revealed a trace of nostalgia. If not for that accident, his grandson should have been like this as well!
"Kid, don't get too carried away. Come test your Soul Power."
Yang Wudi took a crystal ball from his Storage Soul Tool and handed it to Liu Yanyang.
Liu Yanyang also wanted to know what level he had reached. He placed his hand on the crystal ball, which emitted a dazzling light.
"Level fourteen and a half. An eight-hundred-year Soul Ring provided four and a half levels of Soul Power!" Yang Wudi looked puzzled at the crystal's flashing light.
"The Soul Ring should have provided three and a half levels of Soul Power. The other level should have come from the Ten-Thousand-Year Dragon Ganoderma," Liu Yanyang said softly.
In truth, he knew that extra level had come from the Whale Rubber. The medicinal power of the Ten-Thousand-Year Dragon Ganoderma had already been fully absorbed when he awakened his Martial Soul.
However, he could not yet completely trust Yang Wudi.
Yang Wudi nodded, agreeing with that explanation. He pointed toward the tent set up nearby and spoke slowly.
"Kid, go rest. Once dawn comes, we'll leave the Star Dou Great Forest immediately."
Liu Yanyang did not stand on ceremony. He was only a small-time Soul Master now; there was no way he could keep watch. Any thousand-year speed-type Soul Beast could catch him off guard and send him straight to the afterlife!
Lying in the tent, he thought about how he had now obtained his first Soul Ring and reached level fourteen and a half. He had taken his first step.
His next focus would be Soul Power cultivation and Spear Technique.
