Bang! Bang! Bang!
My finger squeezed the trigger. At the same time, I grabbed Mengmeng by the scruff of her neck with my right hand and leaped backward.
Three bursts of blood erupted from the chest of the brown-gray wild wolf. He yelped and crashed to the
ground, rolling away.
As I retreated, Tuanzi let out a shrill little shout from my shoulder.
"Holy shit!"
Something moved on my shoulder, and a scream suddenly rang out behind me. I had no time to look back, but I knew Tuanzi had stopped one of them.
There were more than a dozen wolves, though, and with
the night so dark and the pack familiar with the terrain, I would be at a disadvantage if I stayed to fight.
With that thought, I scooped Mengmeng into my arms.
"Tuanzi, strap Mengmeng to me."
I let go as soon as I spoke. Tuanzi reacted instantly. As the words left my mouth, more than a dozen thin black
strands shot out from my shoulder and bound Mengmeng to my chest.
Whoosh!
A rush of air came from behind me. Acting on instinct, I dropped into a crouch and bent backward into a
bridge. My knees folded completely, making it look as though I had fallen flat on my back.
But with Tuanzi's help, my back never touched the ground. I hung there in an odd
reclining pose, supported by four thin strands at my shoulders and lower back.
As I leaned back, a wild wolf lunged over me with a rush of air. I raised my left hand and drew my gun with my right.
In an instant, more than a dozen
rounds poured out!
Bang-bang-bang-bang-bang!
Muzzle flashes lit up everything before me, and gunfire echoed through the valley. More than a dozen holes appeared
