Although they couldn't keep up with me underwater,
their bodies were naturally much stronger than mine, and the distance
was closing bit by bit. Every time I looked back, they had gained at least several inches. At this rate, it wouldn't take a minute for the first zombie to catch me!
I kept moving forward, glancing back to check on them.
The water created a lot of resistance, but stabbing with a sword shouldn't be a problem.
With that thought, I strained to turn around and lift my head, looking at the zombie nearest to me. I slowly backed away,
raised my sword, aimed at its head,
and thrust with all my might!
"Pfft!"
With a muffled thud, I stabbed a huge hole straight through the zombie's head. Its body convulsed,
then, as I pulled the longsword free, it gradually stopped moving. But when I withdrew the blade, a little of the blue gelatinous substance came with it.
That gel could survive in seawater, but it couldn't move. I was relieved about that, at least!
I kept backing away step by step as the zombies chased me. I stabbed whichever one got closest. I managed to keep going like that for a little over a minute,
but I still hadn't dealt with all of them.
There were simply too many zombies. If this kept up, I'd eventually be exhausted to death.
At the thought, I couldn't help feeling anxious. It wouldn't matter much if I died, but my body... my blood and everything else... could very well accelerate the evolution of that blue gel.
And without me, Tuanzi might go berserk. By then, even Irene might not be able to stop that thing.
Besides... I didn't want to die right now!
Fuck!
Before the apocalypse, I'd been an ordinary civilian.
