Chapter Fifty-Three: "Feeding" Play
"The zombies really were following the smell of my blood..."
Before I could get close, I could already hear the zombies' strange cries coming from inside the shaft. Having confirmed it, I no longer felt like going any farther. I turned around and walked back
beneath the solar water heater. In the cramped space, I wrapped myself in the plastic sheet again and watched the rain patter outside...
Another day passed.
When I opened my eyes again, the feeling in my lower abdomen... was nothing but cold. The sky was still overcast, but
the rain had stopped. It was bright enough to see.
"I can see... Is it morning again?"
I stood up, but I was still weak. As soon as I got to my feet, a wave of dizziness hit me, and I instinctively grabbed the iron frame beside me.
"Ugh!"
The pain in my finger brought me to my senses for a moment, only for another wave of dizziness to wash over me.
The distant sky was gray-black with clouds, and sunlight filtered through them, casting a gloomy light over everything.
"Ugh... Haa..."
I took a deep breath. The cool air filled my chest and dispersed some of the fog in my head.
"The feeling in my lower abdomen has stopped. I don't know if that means I'm getting better. But whether I am or not, I should try now... I'm so
hungry. I can't hold out much longer like this, and besides..."
I rubbed my foggy head.
"My cold is getting worse... I'm even seeing double. If I don't leave here soon, I'm afraid I really will
die here..."
I looked around. The rooftop was flat, and the rain-soaked asphalt gleamed a deep blue-green. Although it looked smooth, walking on it revealed
all
