Klein was truly speechless.
How many comfortable days had he enjoyed since the last incident that had posed a sufficient threat to his life?
Not even a month!
Why was there another disaster that could threaten an entire city and even destroy peace across the whole continent?
Klein sat expressionlessly in his seat. He looked calm, but in truth, he was out of options.
At that moment, he even had the urge to immediately leave Backlund and see whether the spark that would eventually ignite a continent-wide war would erupt in Backlund, or follow him to another city.
"But I only just paid this week's rent. If I move out now, I can get my deposit back, but I probably won't get back the rent for the remaining days this week. And if I go to another city, I'll have to rent a new place and find a new job..."
Klein recalled the thickness of his wallet. Although he had some savings now, he could not afford to spend money like that.
So don't be surprised by why, in those horror movies, the protagonists stubbornly remain in a house even when they know it might be haunted... Did they really not want to move?
Or did they not want to hire a group of professional monks, priests, or exorcists to cleanse the house inside and out?
They simply did not have that much money!
Ghosts might not kill you, but poverty truly would!
So, just like Klein now, they could only comfort themselves that nothing would probably happen, even though they knew they were living in a haunted house and that something was likely to go wrong sooner or later.
Even if something did happen, they could only deal with it as it came.
Klein sighed wearily.
