Fight to the Death
"Watch out!" Wang Xiaohui, beside Liu Jia, shoved her aside and drove her wheelchair forward. The instant it touched the middle-aged woman, a translucent pillar of light sprang up around her. The woman's blade struck it as if hitting a spring, failing to pierce through; the tremendous rebound sent both her and her knife flying!
The middle-aged woman crashed into the glass window. Furious and alarmed, she did not dare continue fighting. She scrambled up and rushed for the Front Door, but the moment she pulled it open, a shadow shot out in front of her, and a hand swiftly slashed across her throat!
Bright red liquid sprayed out. The man shoved the middle-aged woman back into the carriage and stepped inside after her!
He was a very tall man. He wiped his bloody hand across his mouth, but his eyes remained fixed on the others in the carriage.
Xu Huo was closest to him, but after his gaze wandered briefly, the man skipped over him and settled on Yan Jiayu two meters away!
After two days on the train, the players had acquired basic emergency instincts. When the middle-aged woman was killed, Liu Jia and the other two had already backed away.
Wang Xiaohui's Ability would not last long. Neither Liu Jia nor Professor Han could fight, and Professor Han was injured as well. The only ones left who could fight were Xu Huo and Yan Jiayu!
Yan Jiayu exchanged a look with Xu Huo. She retreated slightly toward the hole in the window and kicked away the table beneath it.
The Cannibal Player from First-Class Seat merely glanced at it before returning his gaze to her face. He attacked without hesitation. Though his left arm was injured and he had been forced out of First-Class Seat, Second-Class Seat was full of the crippled and wounded. Even injured, dealing with a little girl would be effortless, so he held a blade between the fingers of his right hand, intending to dispose of Yan Jiayu the same way.
Yan Jiayu stood by the window, seemingly with nowhere left to retreat, yet she remained remarkably calm. Her right leg slid back into a bow stance, her center of gravity dropping swiftly. She dodged his attack with perfect precision. As the blade swept over her head, her fist, veins bulging wildly, smashed straight into the man's chest!
"Hah!"
No one knew how much force that punch contained, but three sharp cracks of breaking bone rang out. Blood sprayed from the man's mouth as he doubled over and staggered backward. Yan Jiayu followed up with a knee to his chin. When he fell, his head twisted backward at an angle impossible for a living person, and his breath vanished instantly.
Yan Jiayu scratched her head, let out a breath, and murmured, "Amitabha." Just as she bent down to move the body aside, the man's rigid eyeballs suddenly rolled. Like a ghost from a horror film, he sprang up and bit for her throat!
Xu Huo was right behind Yan Jiayu. As he yanked her away, he stabbed his knife toward the male player. With a crunch, the man actually swallowed the blade into his mouth, clamping his teeth viciously onto it!
Feeling the pull on his hand, Xu Huo grabbed his knife-wielding wrist with his other hand and shoved sideways. As he sliced open the man's cheek, he drove his elbow back into the man's temple!
Even for a formidable Cannibal Player, the temple was an extremely vulnerable spot. The man instinctively turned his head, but the blow still made his eyes roll back. Yan Jiayu took the chance to kick him, sending him flying into the glass window. He groaned and closed his eyes!
"He's not dead!" Liu Jia pointed at the man's twitching fingers. She and Professor Han grabbed tables and chairs, rushed over, and wildly beat him. Only after they had battered him into a bloody pulp did they cautiously lift him up and throw him out the window!
Watching the man vanish beneath the cliff, Professor Han finally let out a breath. "The Cannibal Players in First-Class Seat are too powerful."
He had even been able to play dead that way. If Xu Huo had not reacted quickly, Yan Jiayu might have lost her life.
"It's not that the players in First-Class Seat are powerful," Xu Huo said. "There's no obvious division of strength among players. We just happened to encounter rookies."
Only the heavily made-up woman in Second-Class Seat had been stronger. The other players lacked both physical ability and experience; otherwise, they would not have been taken down so easily. If it had been him, half the Normal Players in First-Class Seat would have died on the first night.
Third-Class Seat had blown itself up. Otherwise, with fighting that intense, some players would certainly have escaped. If any of them had mutated into Monsters, it was hard to say whether the metal door could have stopped them.
As for the middle-aged woman, she had simply been unlucky.
Yan Jiayu was still somewhat shaken. "I'll block the Front Door later."
Liu Jia looked at the middle-aged woman's corpse and said in confusion, "Weren't there only six people? Why is there one more?"
"I get it. The woman who was killed the night before last wasn't a Cannibal Player."
"It wasn't her. It should have been Chen Yi." Xu Huo crouched down to inspect the items on the middle-aged woman. There was also a family portrait, with the faces of the two elderly people and the middle-aged man scratched out. Only the middle-aged woman and a young girl remained.
He covered her face with her bloodstained apron, then turned back and briefly explained what had happened with Chen Yi.
If Chen Yi had only wanted to feed, Liu Jia should have been his first choice. They had been close, and subduing a female university student was easier than subduing an adult man. Perhaps it had been for White Cash, or perhaps for a possible game reward, that he chose Xu Huo as his target.
Of course, he might have wanted both. But for a Cannibal Player desperate to feed, that was obviously not worth it. Besides, "Whether you boarded the train hungry makes a huge difference."
The others in the carriage fell silent. They had not noticed it at all. When they boarded, they had already been starving, their chests pressed to their backs. The carriage was filled with everyone else's scent. Simply suppressing the urge to attack others had been incredibly difficult, let alone sparing the attention to observe them.
"You don't look like you boarded hungry either," Yan Jiayu suddenly said.
Still reeling from their emotional turmoil, Liu Jia and the other two looked uneasily at them, their gazes shifting back and forth between the pair.
Xu Huo leisurely lit a Cigarette, openly exhaled a puff of smoke, and stood amid the wreckage with calm composure. "What do you think?"
"I think you're a good person." Yan Jiayu took all the dried fruit from the little pockets of her patchwork robe. "Let's crack walnuts and eat them."
The time that followed was peaceful. They exchanged their limited White Cash for a small amount of food and water, and together with the snacks, the Gluttony Urge seemed to have completely faded away. After lunch, they even took turns sleeping.
As lights-out approached, Professor Han voluntarily moved a table to the Back Door. He was in much better condition than that morning, but no one could say what might happen at night, so they followed their previous arrangement. Yan Jiayu guarded him.
That left the remaining three to guard the holes in the left and right windows and the Front Door respectively.
