Wang Chaoqing's Ability was useful for certain specialized tasks, so he was doing well at the Special Defense Department.
The Special Defense Department's people had been allowed in because they'd offered Xu Huo benefits. Most of the people he'd chosen weren't the department's top picks, which seemed a little unfair—especially since Yu Qingqing and the others had clearly gotten in through connections.
"Isn't it a little ridiculous to let personal preferences decide things when this is such a major event for all the Players in Country X?" the Mask player said.
"Do you even know how to talk? You're benefiting from this too," Yu Qingqing said coldly, giving him a look.
Zhou Ning, Wang Chaoqing, Da Yu, and another player with a special Ability, Jing Qing, didn't say anything, but their expressions were displeased.
Xu Huo, however, didn't get angry. Instead, he answered the question seriously. "My reason is the same as my reason for agreeing to bring people in here."
"Don't overestimate the importance of any one person."
"For District 014, even the most powerful Super Evolver has limited impact. That's why we need more Super Evolvers."
"As far as I'm concerned, neither those who've already become Super Evolvers nor those who've reached the threshold have an absolute advantage. Your odds of evolving are no different from anyone else's, so you don't get priority."
He'd made himself perfectly clear. He was willing to take the risk for the greater good, since every Player would benefit from District 014 becoming stronger. But as far as he was concerned, the Super Evolvers from the Special Defense Department, the military, and the various Player organizations were all fairly ordinary. Their second evolution didn't mean this opportunity had been made just for them. They weren't as exceptional as they thought.
