The Two Sides Had No Sincere Intentions to Cooperate

Shangguan Xi wore artifact shoes, and his clothes offered protection too. First furious, then puzzled, he asked, "Why didn't these people just destroy the passage? Why go to all the trouble of setting traps?"

Xu Huo examined the breach in the passage. "This metal is hard to destroy. To wreck the passage, they'd probably have to blow through the ground too. That would defeat the whole point of using an underground passage."

W37 Base Station had at least once been a fairly well-developed game sub-district. It was only natural that they'd reinforce it however they could, given that a territory that large had been reduced to just thirty-seven cities—the last places where people could survive and reproduce.

"Having the Aliens on our tail really is a hassle." Shangguan Xi looked ahead. "How much farther to the exit?"

"Not far," the boy replied.

After another ten or so minutes, the boy signaled for them to keep quiet. They climbed at least fifty meters up a sloping passage, then turned a corner before spotting a small iron door ahead.

The door was probably set high on the outside of the city's protective wall. Beyond it lay a
