The people still alive in W18 gave off a terrible impression. They were like a stagnant pool, all of them living in a daze, merely not dead yet.

"So this is what it looks like when there's no hope at all. Pretty miserable," Shangguan Xi muttered under his breath.

The remark earned him a hostile look from the boy, who led them up to the seventh floor of the dormitory building with a stony face. He knocked on a room door. "Teacher Ai, I've brought two guests back."

He knocked several times in a row, but no one answered. The boy's expression changed. He hurriedly moved the potted plant beside the window, reached in to open the latch, and climbed inside.

A few seconds later, the boy opened the door and rushed out. "Teacher Ai's been kidnapped!"

Xu Huo glanced into the room. It looked like an ordinary living space, except for the chair in front of the desk, which seemed a little unusual.

"What happened?" Shangguan Xi looked around. "There's no sign of a struggle."

The boy had no time to explain. He left them with a single sentence—"Teacher Ai has trouble getting around. He never leaves his wheelchair unless he has to"—then ran downstairs and alerted the other locals to search for him.

Teacher Ai was an important figure here. All the locals searched every corner of where they lived, even checking the underground passages, but they found no trace of him.

"If a Player kidnapped him, there's no way you'll find him by searching," Shangguan Xi said. "Have any strangers come by recently?"

The boy had been outside for the past two days, so he hurried to ask the others. In the end, he got a lead from a child around ten
