The Weight and Fragility of Life
The Alien collapsed, but more came running from farther away. Xu Huo shoved the Strings into the female Player's hand. "Don't let go. The Third Floor isn't safe. Take the two children."
The female Player looked exhausted, but her eyes were bright. "I'm beyond saving. Take the children. I'll buy you some time!"
"No need." Xu Huo raised two fingers and lifted her to the Third Floor. Once the two children were tied to her, he used the Strings to carry them high into the air, then turned to face the Aliens.
The curtain of rain counted as an obstacle, so the Bright Red Sword was only useful in close combat. Xu Huo used the Water Knife Gun instead, which could fire at a distance. Combined with his Ability, it let him kill the Aliens effortlessly.
After the first wave of Alien attacks ended, the female Player urged him to seize the chance to escape. Although more Aliens were approaching in the distance, there was a brief lull—enough time for him to get away. Yet Xu Huo, moving among the Aliens at a speed that dazzled the eye, acted as if he hadn't heard her. Not only did he have no intention of leaving, he headed straight toward where the Aliens were coming from!
Beneath the black rain, he was almost impossible to make out, but wherever he passed, an Alien fell. Soon, the rain carried the stench of blood, and other colors mingled with the muddy water on the ground.
Only after the bodies lay scattered everywhere and he confirmed there were no more Aliens nearby did Xu Huo stop. He chose a higher floor and took the female Player and the two children inside.
When the female Player landed, she looked weak.
