A Frightening Night Tour of Rose Castle
The matter with Dr. Deng could be set aside for now. After visiting the Duchess, Xu Huo returned to Rose Castle, where it was time to host the banquet.
The day before the banquet, Xu Huo's companion, Angel, arrived at the castle early to practice dancing.
After their practice, Xu Huo had planned to take Angel home, but she didn't want to leave. She coaxed him into letting her spend the night at the castle so she could admire the Garden Maze after dark.
Xu Huo didn't force her to leave. He asked Mr. Dong to show her around, then returned to the Study Room himself.
Pouting as Mr. Dong escorted her, Angel said, "I didn't expect the baron to be so clueless about romance. He isn't even going to keep his guest company. What could possibly be more important than his companion?"
Mr. Dong was very good at dealing with young noblewomen. "The gentleman is preparing for tomorrow's banquet. There will be many guests, and as the host, he mustn't be discourteous."
The charming, adorable Angel reluctantly accepted the explanation and yawned. "Fine. I don't feel like looking around anymore, anyway. Where's my room?"
Mr. Dong took her to a guest room on the second floor. After preparing everything she'd asked for, he said as he was about to leave, "Miss Angel, the castle was recently renovated, and it's easy to get lost. It's best not to wander around after nightfall. If you need anything, just ring the bell."
Angel waved impatiently to show she understood.
Mr. Dong left.
Night soon fell. Perhaps because the weather had changed so quickly, rain began to fall outside, accompanied by mist. With most of the lights turned off, the castle was engulfed in thick darkness.
