Chapter 709: The Damn Rich

Angel wasn't a Player. She was just an ordinary person who had taken an Evolution Potion. Her physical abilities were closer to an Evolver's, but that didn't mean much in practice. The fact that she could trip while walking showed she didn't usually do any physical training.

Angel ran until she was gasping for breath, but the maze had no end. Gradually, her pace slowed, until she finally sprawled across the steps.

The rain was cold, but it couldn't match the chill in her heart. She had barely lain there long enough to catch her breath when footsteps sounded behind her again.

The click-clack of shoes on the steps was more terrifying than a death knell. Angel gritted her teeth and forced herself up to keep running. No matter how fast she went, the sound stayed right behind her, always just one step back. She looked over her shoulder again and again, but couldn't see who was there...

Of course, she didn't dare turn around to see what was following her. After stumbling blindly onward for a while, she realized the steps beneath her were getting deeper, with uneven rises that made running even harder.

But she still couldn't see the end!

She had tried darting around and climbing the hedges, but the maze seemed to multiply endlessly. No matter what she did, she couldn't find her way. Looking out from above, she saw nothing but darkness all around and couldn't even tell which direction the Ancient Castle was in!

"Click-clack! Click-clack! Click-clack!"

The footsteps came again. Unable to take it anymore, Angel yelled for help. "Mr. Xu! Butler Dong! I'm lost in the maze!"

Beneath the heavy fog, there was no reply. Only the footsteps behind her quickened.

Angel's heart pounded like a drum.
