Repeated Wax Figures
Xie Ling took out a string of lighting props.
Beyond the wax figures lay the official exhibition halls, but the first room they came to seemed to be only part of one. It covered just over a hundred square meters, with wax figures in various walking poses evenly distributed throughout. They varied in age and clothing, though some were covered with white cloth.
Xu Ruosi reached out and pulled off a piece of white cloth. After examining the figure, she said, "There's no difference between this one and the others."
Xu Huo and the others also inspected the wax figures here, taking apart the ones that needed it. There was no chance a body was hidden inside.
Next, they went into a second room. Like the previous one, it had only a few small lamps of different colors set up in the corners. The dim lighting felt oppressive, but once Xie Ling shone her prop around, the entire room brightened.
As before, the room was filled with wax figures in various poses, but these were either kneeling or sprawled on the floor, their limbs and expressions twisted in pain. Some had severed hands and feet scattered around them.
"Have you noticed? These wax figures are the same as the ones in the previous room," Xie Ling said, swallowing. "Their clothing and numbers all match."
"Not just that," Xu Ruosi said. "The broken figures in this room are the ones we broke earlier."
The wax figures were hollow. Judging by their weight, most of them obviously couldn't contain anything, so they hadn't taken every one apart to check.
But who could have imagined that the wax figures they'd broken in the previous room would be broken here too—and in exactly the same places?
Long Aotian crushed one underfoot.
