"Snow falls every year. What's there to be surprised about?"
Little White Fox tilted its head, watching a snowflake land on the tip of its nose.
Its nose twitched.
The snowflake drifted lazily back down.
Xiao Xiao reached out and rubbed Little White Fox's head. "It's been almost a year since we last saw snow."
"And besides, snow is beautiful, isn't it?"
Little White Fox still looked cool and lazy, but it didn't close its eyes as it usually did. Its ruby-red pupils reflected the falling snow.
There was no one else in the dorm.
Zhang Bo had basketball practice.
An upperclasswoman from Zhuge Yun's club had asked him to help her.
One of Zhao Luzheng's old high school classmates had come to visit.
Xiao Xiao instinctively glanced at the cardboard box in the cubby of his desk.
It was a habit he'd picked up after he'd "rescued" the sleeping Mushroom Sprite.
But every time he looked, all he saw was the Mushroom Sprite sleeping peacefully.
He'd thought this time would be the same.
But, quite unexpectedly, his somewhat absent gaze met that of the Mushroom Sprite, who had just poked its head out and was looking around in bewilderment.
Mushroom Sprite:?!
The little demon blinked, completely dumbfounded.
Xiao Xiao was taken aback, then chuckled softly. What a coincidence...
He found it rather dramatic.
Xiao Xiao's laughter snapped the dazed Mushroom Sprite out of its stupor.
It sprang to its feet. "Goo~ goo-goo~"
Its voice was dry, like a tightly stretched string, with a shrill note to it.
"Don't be nervous."
Xiao Xiao spoke soothingly to the overly agitated little demon.
"I mean you no harm."
"Do you remember what happened before?"
The human's gentle, unhurried voice helped the Mushroom Sprite's tense nerves relax a little.
