Background / History
Zhang Heng regarded his legitimate elder brother, Zhang Yu, as an obstacle to inheriting the Marquis Yong'an Estate. Thirteen years before their confrontation, he pushed Zhang Yu into water and falsely accused him of initiating the attack; Zhang Yu was subsequently abandoned at a rural estate. Zhang Heng later admitted that he wished Zhang Yu had died there. 1 10
When Zhang Heng injured a member of the Wang family, he allowed Qin Xuehua to make Zhang Yu take responsibility. Though he outwardly displayed guilt, he privately celebrated the prospect of Zhang Yu remaining imprisoned forever. 1 2
His standing rested heavily on Qin Xuehua's favoritism. After Zhang Yu's imprisonment, Zhang Heng pursued Jiang Luohan—Zhang Yu's fiancée—and supported the plan to dissolve their engagement in favor of one between himself and Jiang Luohan. 6
Lin Ruoxi, Princess of the Zhao Kingdom, is Zhang Heng's mother. They reunited after the Zhang family's conflict with the Wei imperial court escalated, then planned revenge against Qin Xuehua and the Xiao and Qin families. 105
Appearance
Ten years after the fall of the Marquis Estate, Zhang Heng appeared to be around thirty. His face showed exhaustion beyond his apparent age, while his sharp eyes concealed a persistent gloom. 298
- Eagle-sharp gaze marked by hatred and wariness. 298
- Weathered, fatigued appearance after years spent pursuing power and revenge. 298
- Cold, grim aura after cultivating Dongqing Immortal's evil art. 304
Personality
Zhang Heng is calculating, jealous, and deeply resentful of Zhang Yu. He identified his elder brother as a lifelong rival and openly framed their relationship as a struggle for the heir apparent position. 10
He is also entitled and status-conscious. When placed in charge of the Marquis Estate's enterprises, he assumed their wealth came from the estate's foundations rather than Zhang Yu's arrangements; this confidence led him to dismiss the crucial formation master Chen Dongpeng. 19 20
His arrogance gives way to panic when he loses institutional protection. He begged Zhang Yu for mercy after being condemned for attacking Li Dagang, but quickly returned to taunting and threatening Zhang Yu when he learned the Zhang family had gained a Grandmaster ally. 84 86
After surviving the Zhang family's collapse, his desire for revenge became more consuming. He pursued the Xiao family for years and joined Zhang Qingyue's campaign against Medical Immortal Valley. 298 304

Story Role / Major Arcs
Framing Zhang Yu and the Prison Scapegoat Plot
Zhang Heng caused the Wang family incident that sent Zhang Yu to prison in his place. He privately hoped the imprisonment would permanently remove Zhang Yu as a rival, then attempted to claim Jiang Luohan after Zhang Yu was incarcerated. 1 6
Dingsheng Workshop Collapse
After recovering from his injuries, Zhang Heng seized control of Zhang Yu's businesses to prove himself. He took over Dingsheng Workshop, dismissed Chen Dongpeng, and lost the formation master responsible for maintaining its Earth Fire Formation and alchemy-furnace inscriptions. 18 20
The workshop's formations then failed, pill production plummeted, and the Marquis Estate faced more than two hundred thousand taels in potential contract penalties. 25 28
Conflict with the Imperial Merchants
When Zhang Yu's former business network stopped subsidizing the Marquis Estate, Zhang Heng tried to force merchants into accepting a new supply contract. He injured Li Dagang and prepared to kill him, only to be stopped by an arrow and Imperial Merchant reinforcements. 68 70
Prince Qi ordered Zhang Heng's arrest and sent him to the Heavenly Prison to await Zhang Yu's judgment. 72

A decade later, he returned as a Heaven Ascension Realm cultivator. He reunited with Zhang Qingyue, identified the Xiao family's refuge at Medical Immortal Valley, and joined the Primal Origin Divine Dynasty's assault. 298 304
Death

Zhang Yu ended their feud with a single finger tap to Zhang Heng's forehead, turning both Zhang Heng and Dongqing Immortal's remnant soul into ash. 306
