Feifei's guess had naturally been right.

Whether the empire's top decision-makers in the Privy Council and the Grand Marshal's Office were growing paranoid or arguing among themselves didn't affect ordinary soldiers for the time being. But at least in this theater of the Diamond Nebula, the imperial officers who had received the latest news were all a little shaken to the core.

And so, from the very beginning, the meeting of senior officers was shrouded in a suffocating gloom. The imperial generals, each commanding a vast army, wore grave expressions, as though mourning their own parents.

"This doesn't feel like a meeting at all. It's more like a group storytelling session about ghosts—and the kind that just scared someone to death."

That comparison came from Colonel Pegase, captain of the Jade Rabbit. He wasn't qualified to attend, but at least he could see his commander's expression through the soundproof barrier.

"But if it's a ghost-story session scary enough to kill people, why are so many people attending?" asked a grizzled Letarin brigadier general named Hatcher. Though advanced in age, he was probably still as plain and simple as a country farmer because he had spent his entire life in the sector defense fleet.

Perhaps it was precisely because of his plainspoken nature that he stumped his highly educated comrade.

Colonel Pegase wrestled with the question for at least ten seconds before forcing out an awkward laugh. "Ahahaha, I suppose you could call it a rule-based ghost story. But, speaking of which, sir, you're a general too. Why aren't you attending the meeting?"

"I'm a Letarin. Besides, what kind of general is a sector's local fleet commander?" The Letarin smiled affably.
