Of course, they also knew why humans were called monkeys.
Because the You Beasts were their origin—a branch of the Demon Race.
Humans had come from a cross between the demonic apes called You Beasts and another race.
They'd been called that for a time, and that was why.

The character originally depicted a snake biting a person. Its pronunciation should have been something like chi—"eat" or "foolish."
No one knew how it was supposed to be pronounced anymore.
But one thing was certain: the snake in that pictograph had a ridge like a sword along its ears and temples, and several horns on its head.
It was biting someone.
It was easy to mistake these snakes for dragons or merfolk.
