Gwen Stacy had made a name for herself in Gotham, and sure enough, she'd made the headlines.
That evening, Batman came looking for her.
When the Bat-Signal appeared in the sky, Gwen was naturally intrigued and went to check it out.
She was with Rachel, who was taking her turn swinging on webs.
But when they arrived, Batman was nowhere to be seen.
Gwen made a nimble turn, but Batman still wasn't there.
"Huh? I thought Batman always appeared behind you."
Gwen looked puzzled.
Rachel asked, "How do you know?"
"That's how it is in the comics. If you turn your back on him, he disappears."
"Oh."
Batman: ...
"Ahem."
With no other choice, he coughed twice from above.
In the darkness, his cloak flapped loudly in the wind.
Just from their brief conversation, he'd already learned quite a bit.
His suspicion that his identity was no longer a secret had been confirmed.
Sure enough, when he saw the glint in Rachel's eyes, he understood.
This was bad.
They all knew Batman was Bruce Wayne!
The thought infuriated Batman. In a low voice, he asked, "Where did you come from?"
"Another world."
Gwen Stacy immediately took off her mask and said, like a starstruck fan, "Batman, can I team up with you to fight crime?"
Kara and the others were fans of Spider-Man, while Ghost-Spider-Man was a fan of Batman.
It made perfect sense.
After all, Batman and Superman were the most popular, weren't they?
"Who are you?"
Batman asked helplessly.
"I'm Ghost-Spider-Man, Gwen Stacy."
Gwen smiled. She already knew she was a comic-book character in this world, and thought it was pretty cool.
"Have you never read my comics?"
Batman had only read Peter Parker's.
But he didn't say that. He'd looked into her before coming here, after all.
