Background / History

Chu Ning inexplicably appeared in Ye Qinglian's sealed cultivation chamber during the annual outbreak of her Heavenly Fragrance Physique. Though he was initially perceived as a mortal, the encounter left Ye Qinglian pregnant with his child. She spared him and later brought him into the Imperial Palace. 2

Initially concealing—or unable to access—his cultivation, Chu Ning acted as a capable but laid-back palace resident. He cooked for Ye Qinglian, helped care for her pregnancy, and offered political proposals intended to reduce her workload. His reform plan led to the establishment of the Grand Secretariat, Censorate, and official assessment system. 13 16 23

Ye Qinglian eventually appointed him Imperial Sovereign, granting him authority equal to her own. Though reluctant to attend court, Chu Ning handled memorials with exceptional speed and competence while repeatedly insisting that he had no interest in taking her throne. 26 29 36

His true power became increasingly apparent after he shattered the Ye Family Holy Land's Spirit Testing Platform, restored its ancestor statue, and bestowed fortune upon the Ye family. He later revealed that his cultivation had once been sealed, explaining why he had initially appeared weak. 17 68

When the Great Zhou Dynasty and Lieyang Holy Land threatened Great Gan, Chu Ning openly intervened. He had already killed the Infinite Realm assassin Wang Jingzhong, restored the Imperial Palace after its destruction, annihilated Great Zhou, and eradicated Lieyang Holy Land.
