Kisuke Urahara and Tenjiro Kirinji followed the small figure dressed in black.
After rescuing them, the figure had led them away from the scene.
Their rescuer knew the area well. They crossed street after street, shook off the Shinigami captains pursuing them, and reached a secluded spot.
The figure lifted a manhole cover and entered the Seireitei's underground drainage system.

With the figure leading the way, they took turn after turn until the space ahead suddenly opened up.
A vast underground chamber stretched before Kisuke Urahara.
Its walls were built of stone bricks. Unlike the passage they had just crossed, it was brightly lit.
No light source was visible, yet the entire chamber shone as though it lay beneath the sun.
Once they arrived, the black-clad figure relaxed a little.
"This is a secret hideout built long ago. Ordinary Shinigami would never find it—not even members of the Fourth Division assigned to clean the underground passages!"
Her certainty put Kisuke Urahara somewhat at ease.
He stepped forward, scratched his head, and said gratefully, "Thank you for saving our lives. I still don't know who you are—"
"There's no need to thank me. That's not why I saved you!"
The figure raised a hand. Her stern voice made her reluctance plain.
"If anything, I never intended to save you. I didn't even want to!"
With that, she headed deeper into the chamber and waved for Kisuke Urahara and Tenjiro Kirinji to follow.
"Come with me. The captains sentenced to death are inside."
Kisuke Urahara's brow eased.
