History

Founding and early conflicts

Konoha was founded when Senju Hashirama and Uchiha Madara united the ninja clans, ending the Warring States era within their nation; other nations subsequently established their own ninja villages. The First Shinobi World War began after Hashirama's death, when the concentration of shinobi power within the new village system fueled national ambitions. 233

The Uchiha and Senju were Konoha's two founding great clans. During Tobirama Senju's era, the Uchiha were given control of the Military Police Force, an arrangement later characterized by Uchiha Yuan as isolating them from other clans and the village's political center. 3 370

During the Second Shinobi World War, most Uchiha Police Force members were kept in Konoha under the stated reason of village guard duty, while only half of the clan was permitted to serve on several flanking battlefields. This deprived the clan of battlefield achievements while other clans, particularly the Senju, suffered heavy frontline losses. 18 146

Nine-Tails' Rampage

During the Nine-Tails' attack, Root operatives acting under Danzō's order blocked Uchiha Fugaku and the Uchiha Police Force from leaving their posts to aid the village. 1

Hiruzen Sarutobi and the Anbu attempted to restrain the Nine-Tails but could only hinder it until Fourth Hokage Minato Namikaze stopped the rampage by sacrificing himself to seal the beast. 2 3

The appearance of a Sharingan imprint in the Nine-Tails' eyes intensified suspicion toward the Uchiha. After the attack, Konoha ordered the Uchiha clan grounds moved from a prime district to a remote outer area surrounded by other ninja clans. 2 3 4

Third Shinobi World War

Following Minato's death, Sunagakure, Kirigakure, Kumogakure, and Iwagakure moved against a weakened Konoha. Konoha first targeted Sunagakure and Kirigakure to break the encirclement, deploying the Uchiha Police Force against Kirigakure due to the clan's Fire Release and Sharingan. 4

Konoha later maintained fronts against Kumogakure and Iwagakure. Its Kumogakure-front forces operated under Jiraiya, who reorganized surviving units after a major surprise attack and rebuilt the damaged camp. 64

Relations with the Uchiha Clan

The relationship between Konoha and the Uchiha clan is defined by prolonged mistrust. Uchiha Yuan describes the clan as excluded from the village's center of power despite its control of the Police Force, while Hiruzen's administration and the elders regard the clan's growing influence and armed organization as a potential rebellion. 3 201 370

The village's suspicion escalated after the Nine-Tails' Rampage, the forced relocation of the Uchiha compound, and repeated Anbu surveillance. 2 3 301 369

Uchiha Yuan's unilateral assignment of the Police Force to guard the village gate prompted the High Command to consider arresting him. Fugaku did not authorize the action, but chose not to intervene, leaving Konoha to determine its response. 163

The Uchiha's support for the Hyuga during Kumogakure's demand for Hiashi Hyuga's life further polarized the village. Some residents praised the intervention, while others regarded it as dangerous pressure against the Hokage's authority. 345 362 364

When Uchiha Yuan established the Auxiliary Service Squad from former subordinates of Orochimaru, Shisui warned that Konoha would interpret it as preparation for a coup. Fugaku ultimately supported the proposal despite the clan's internal dispute. 369 370 371

Uchiha Clan Downfall

After Danzō's ambush on Uchiha Yuan and increased isolation around the Uchiha compound, radical clan members began openly advocating a coup. 451 453

Hiruzen tasked Uchiha Itachi with preventing the coup, while Anbu monitored key clans and challenged the Police Force's authority. 454

On the Night of the Uchiha Clan Downfall, the Uchiha compound and Police Force headquarters were sealed off while Konoha remained unaware. Itachi began slaughtering Uchiha inside Police Force headquarters, while Obito attacked elsewhere in the clan grounds. 460 461 463 464

The clan lost nearly forty percent of its members, including several elders. Surviving Uchiha captured Anbu operatives and sought to hold Konoha accountable, citing Itachi's status as a Konoha Anbu ninja and Root's involvement in attacks on the clan. 469 474 478
