Background and History
Gen grows up in the declining Senju Clan, whose losses in the first two Shinobi World Wars have left few young successors. At the Ninja Academy, his surname and athletic ability make him a popular figure, but he is also eager to test himself: he challenges Uchiha Shinsuke and loses after Shinsuke breaks through his defense 15 18 19 20.
Gen becomes interested in classmate Uchiha Yuan after seeing Yuan defeat Hyuga Kagami far faster than Gen expected. He repeatedly asks for a match, then follows Yuan and Hatake Harukaze and attacks Yuan to force a confrontation. Harukaze fights him first and wins. After Yuan reveals a fraction of his concealed chakra, Gen promises to keep both friends’ abilities secret 37 39 40 41.
Their rivalry develops into a close friendship. Gen credits Yuan’s guidance for his Water Release progress and continues visiting the Uchiha compound despite warnings from his sister Yuki and Konoha’s leadership. Yuan’s proposed nickname, “Senju Destruction Dragon,” appeals to Gen’s ambition to become a renowned shinobi 128 130 131 139.
After Gen and Yuki awaken Wood Style, they offer to support Yuan against Konoha’s leadership, while Yuki makes clear that they do not speak for the entire Senju Clan.
