Lin Chudong smiled. "Like I said, he can do his thing and we can do ours. No need to worry about it."
Jia Lu said, "We blew them offstage last time and left them with a dead crowd. They'll definitely try to get back at us this time, right?"
Wang Zhi snorted. "They'd need a song to get back at us. That kid Wu Bo would have a hard time coming up with a stage-shaking song that leaves us unable to follow."
Lin Chudong said, "Don't underestimate them. Shen Jianbin is a very calculating person. He might have a killer song up his sleeve. But don't put any pressure on yourselves. Our goal isn't to compete with them; it's to reach a bigger stage. Just focus on doing your jobs well!"
"All right, everyone should get some rest."
Early the next morning, everyone got busy with their own tasks. Chen Jianguo and Wang Zhi gave the two ladies a crash course in music theory. Jia Lu was fine; drummers didn't need to know much music theory.
But Jing Feifei's music theory was still a problem. She'd studied classical music, so she didn't have as firm a grasp of pop music theory. She needed an intensive crash course.
Classical music had its own system of music theory, which differed greatly from that of modern pop music. Jing Feifei knew some of it, but she needed to get used to thinking in terms of pop music instead of classical, until it became second nature.
Wang Zhi didn't dare be too harsh, in case her billionaire father got angry, bought the band, and fired him.
Lin Chudong didn't need any more practice. He just had to work out the kinks once the orchestra arrived.
He took out his phone and sent Lin Qiqi a message on WeChat.
"Are you busy today?"
Lin Qiqi: Filming. I probably won't be done until tonight. Are you looking for someone to hang out with?
Lin Chudong: I want to see you. Send me the address and I'll come visit the set.
Lin Qiqi: Okay, hehe.
After she sent him the location, Lin Chudong went out and bought some vegetables and meat.
Back at the Piano Shop, he went into the kitchen and started cooking. In less than twenty minutes, the delicious aroma had filled the air.
Wang Zhi was delighted. "Brother Fei, you're spoiling us today! You're cooking yourself? Does that mean no takeout?"
Lin Chudong said, "There's none for you guys. You'd better order takeout now, before the delivery riders stop taking orders."
Wang Zhi: ...
"Brother Fei, you're so heartless when you say things like that."
Lin Chudong had bought two insulated lunch boxes specially. He carefully packed four dishes and a soup into them, then said,
"I'm not eating with you guys at noon. Wang Zhi, give the leftovers to Old Chen to have with his drinks. I'm off."
Wang Zhi: ...
Lin Chudong arrived at the film crew's location, a fully enclosed Film Studio that was quite far away. It had taken him fifty minutes by taxi.
On the way, Lin Chudong had also bought a hundred cups of coffee, which were delivered along with the coffee shop owner.
As soon as he entered the set, a director called out,
"Who ordered the coffee? It's here!"
"Which way is the delivery guy going? Don't let him walk into the shot!"
Lin Chudong was mistaken for a delivery guy. Even though he'd been on Trending Search, plenty of people still didn't recognize him.
Carrying a huge pile of coffee, he walked around the filming area and set it down in a corner. The coffee shop guy dusted off his hands and left.
Lin Qiqi was filming at the moment. It looked like a costume Xianxia drama. Dressed in a flowing gown, she looked like a celestial maiden descended from the heavens—so beautiful she seemed unreal.
She held a long sword and looked ethereal. Even the slight anger on her face was captivating. No wonder she was a ratings guarantee; people loved watching her even when she was just standing there doing nothing.
Her scene partner was a young stuntman, who was suspended in the air by wires and pretending to soar among the clouds.
Suddenly, someone in the crowd exclaimed,
"Da Fei?"
Everyone turned to look at Lin Chudong in the corner.
He'd only been on Trending Search yesterday, but even people who hadn't known him before had been hearing the name Da Fei a lot over the past couple of days.
Lin Chudong smiled and waved at everyone.
Lin Qiqi called out from across the set, "Da Fei!"
Her expression instantly changed from the one in the script to a beaming smile. It was so radiant it could outshine a kingdom.
Lin Qiqi tossed aside the sword in her hand, gathered up her skirt with both hands, and hurried over.
Her skirt was long, making it hard to run. But even when she stepped on the hem, she didn't care. She sprinted over with all her might.
She left the actor suspended in midair, the camera operator carrying a camera on the ground, the director sitting in front of the monitor, and dozens of extras standing around, all waiting.
Without a second thought, she ran straight to Lin Chudong.
Lin Qiqi reached him, her smile as bright as a flower.
Her makeup and pale-blue traditional gown made her look just like a fairy from the Ninth Heaven.
"Da Fei, you came to see me!"
Lin Chudong nodded. "Hurry back and finish your scene. The director hasn't called cut yet!"
The director quickly stood up. "It's fine, Qiqi. Take a break."
At the director's word, everyone began packing up.
Lin Chudong said, "Thanks for all your hard work. I brought coffee for everyone."
"Thanks, Brother Fei!"
"Thanks, Brother Fei!"
"..."
A lot of people on the crew didn't know Da Fei, but they still thanked him for the coffee.
Lin Chudong picked up the lunch box and said,
"I made something delicious for you."
Lin Qiqi looked delighted and grabbed Da Fei's hand. "Come on, let's go eat."
She led Lin Chudong this way and that until they came to a temple.
Though it was part of the Film Studio, the temple was quite imposing. Lin Chudong saw the Buddha Statue inside and paid his respects.
Lin Qiqi, oblivious to everything, sat on a cushion and eagerly opened the lunch box.
The four dishes and soup inside looked so exquisite that her mouth was practically watering.
"Da Fei, you only brought one spoon?"
"Mm, I already ate. This is for you."
Without another word, Lin Qiqi picked up the food and dug in.
"Wow, it's so good! I didn't get to try your Nine-Turned Intestines last time. I finally get to taste your cooking!"
Lin Chudong smiled. "I'll make Nine-Turned Intestines for you next time."
"Mm-hmm!"
Lin Qiqi had eaten a few bites when a middle-aged woman suddenly walked in.
"Qiqi! Why are you hiding here to eat?"
Lin Qiqi pointed at her and said,
"Da Fei! This mean woman's trying to steal my food. Stop her!"
Lin Chudong smiled wryly. "Qiqi, don't say things like that!"
Lin Chudong stood and held out his hand.
"You must be Sister Song. I'm Da Fei."
Song Jing shook his hand. "Hello. I haven't had a chance to talk to you about what happened yesterday. This young lady really gives me a headache."
"Qiqi, don't eat so much!"
Lin Qiqi hugged the lunch box and snorted, turning her head away from her.
"You're a bad person!"
Song Jing was speechless.
"Da Fei, since we've run into each other, I wanted to talk about what happened yesterday. To avoid affecting Qiqi, we're planning to clarify things today. We'll say it was a spur-of-the-moment thing and that there's nothing more than friendship between you two. What do you think?"
Lin Chudong nodded. "Whatever you think is best, Sister Song. I don't mind."
"Good. Qiqi, don't eat so much rice. Just have a taste, all right?"
Sister Song was easygoing. She was the gentlest manager Lin Chudong had ever met.
Perhaps it was because of Lin Qiqi's family background. Even if Song Jing had a temper, she wouldn't dare take it out on her. The young lady could only be coaxed.
Lin Qiqi glared at Sister Song, then stuffed a big spoonful of rice into her mouth. Slowly, she pulled the spoon out, not leaving a single grain behind.
Then she scooped up another spoonful of food and rice, stood, and held it out to Lin Chudong's mouth.
"Da Fei, you eat. I won't give her any!"
Watching Lin Qiqi take the spoon from her mouth and hold it out to Da Fei, Song Jing shook her head helplessly.
Qiqi, you're going to fall for him at this rate.
Could this rumor actually come true?
