The seemingly insignificant rats of the mining pits had, over several decades, witnessed the rise and fall of Zaun's manufacturing industry.

When Zaun was still the lower city of Piltover, a hub for material supply and market dumping, Zaun's mining industry flourished. The rats, following the footsteps of humans, entered the mines deep underground and settled there.

During the mining boom, these rat populations also rapidly expanded. Under the unregulated mining practices, discarded refuse and the bodies from small-scale mining accidents became food for these rats, causing their numbers to multiply exponentially.

Then, as Zaun underwent a complete transformation, the good days for these rats finally came to an end.

Zaun's mining standards gradually became standardized. The amount of household waste produced by miners sharply decreased, and even when small-scale cave-ins occurred, rescue efforts were actively undertaken. The rats lost a portion of their food and fresh flesh.

Furthermore, with the development of Rune tree cultivation, Zaun consciously began to shed its reliance on mining. Consequently, as the scale of the mining industry further contracted, the piles of household waste that the rats loved to rummage through dwindled, even gradually disappearing.
