Jayce woke up early the next day, feeling both exhausted and excited.
He hadn't slept well the night before—not just because of Mel, but because Karya's book had opened a new world to him, keeping him tossing and turning even in the latter half of the night.
As a result, Jayce had stayed up reading in the living room, only managing to snatch a few hours of sleep right before dawn.
When the alarm clock rang for the third time, Jayce finally dragged himself out of the recliner. He splashed some cold water on his face, poured a bag of coffee powder into his mouth, and swallowed it down with water before preparing to leave.
"Eat something," Mel appeared behind him at some point. "Your body has been getting worse lately."

"You look terrible," Viktor said, looking up from his experimental plan as he heard the door open. He couldn't help but shake his head slightly. "Not only are your eyes dark, but your heart rate is abnormally fast—Skye!"
"Huh? You calling me?"
"The recuperation plan you made for me before," Viktor offered his wife a somewhat stiff smile. "Jayce might need one too..."
"I'm perfectly fine," Jayce insisted, though he knew his condition wasn't great. "Don't project your sickly experiences onto my strong body—I met a special person yesterday."
"Another sucker willing to invest in the Joint Laboratory?" Viktor teased, seeing Jayce's energized demeanor. "And one who won't nitpick?"
