[0776] Debridement

Although both Ixtal and Icathia had fielded sincere and capable forces, neither had much experience fighting the Void. So the task of drawing up a battle plan had to fall to Karya.

Karya readily took on the responsibility and immediately proposed a three-step plan.

First, perform debridement on the Rift: clear out the Void creatures operating near the Void Rift. The goal wasn't to eliminate them all, but at least to keep their numbers below a certain threshold.

Second, launch a decapitation strike against the Rift itself and close it. The details would depend on the results of a reconnaissance of the Void Rift after the debridement was complete.

Third, perform a second round of debridement after closing the Rift. Send in crews to fill in the ravines and sinkholes. Only by allowing the land's wounds to heal completely could the risk of the Void Rift reopening be reduced to a minimum.

That was the three-step battle plan in outline.

With that as their foundation, Karya, Kiyran, and Qiyana began coordinating the forces required for each step.

For the debridement, Qiyana's first thought was to "send in the Great Elementalist legions." Faced with a numerically superior force of Void creatures, Elementalists wielding large-scale area-of-effect spells were clearly better suited to the job.

Kiyran had no strong objections.

Karya, however, believed that the Great Elementalists and Icathian Guardians should scout ahead first. And even if the Great Elementalists deployed in force, they had to take turns with the Malphite network. The debridement must never be left to a single legion.

"The Void is highly adaptable." Faced with Qiyana's confusion, Karya explained patiently. "Except for a very few things that inherently counter the Void, no method will keep working indefinitely if you use it against Void creatures repeatedly. They're physical manifestations of
