Long, long ago, the evil White Witch in the ice castle, Jadis, had toppled and ended the rule of Narnia's first Frank dynasty, usurped the throne, and begun her cold and tyrannical reign over the land.
During her rule, she had earned all sorts of names among the "people" of Narnia, both good and bad. The Undying Witch, the Snow Queen, the Evil Tyrant, the Witch of Stone, the Winter Watcher, the Demon of the Ice Castle, and the Lady of Cair Paravel were just a few.
Although she had ruled Narnia in name for a long time, for some reason Jadis had never spent even a single night in the palace at Cair Paravel, home of the Frank dynasty. Instead, she stubbornly remained in Icecrown Citadel, perched high in the mountains between two snow-covered peaks, gazing down over the vast region from the mountains to the forests, and from the western lands to Cair Castle on the eastern coast.
