Humans had discovered and reached Pandora, and had been landing there to conduct research for quite some time...
At some point, people discovered that Pandora was home to a mineral found nowhere else: "unobtanium." This mineral was what drew humans from Earth to travel countless miles and flock here to explore. It was a priceless resource that could completely transform humanity's energy and industrial infrastructure, and an indispensable part of technological development in modern society.
But there was a problem...
Despite its abundant resources, Pandora was not a suitable place for humans to live. Its air was deadly to them, and the native plants and animals were all ferocious predators, making them extremely dangerous and lethal to humans!
And yet, strangely enough, this hostile environment had given rise to an extraordinary intelligent species, completely unlike humans: the Na'vi, blue-skinned humanoids standing about ten feet tall, or a little over three meters.
From the very beginning, the stubborn Na'vi had been deeply unhappy about the arrival of human prospectors. They were even less pleased by the scars left across their beautiful planet, across Pandora's land, by Earth's machines as they dug for ore everywhere—and scars like those were difficult to repair. And so, their irreconcilable differences had given rise to conflict between the two sides.
For various reasons, Earth's government and military would not permit, and would never readily agree to, using force or waging war against a planet inhabited by an intelligent native species. So the responsibility for negotiating with the Na'vi—persuading them to coexist peacefully and allow humans to mine Pandora—fell to the RDA mining company.
With no other choice, and in order to reconcile the two sides and ensure that unobtanium mining could proceed smoothly, RDA had been forced to launch a program on Pandora called "Avatar." Its
