The capital of the Kingdom of Re-Estize stood at the center of five large regional capitals, arranged roughly like the points of a pentagon. It was also where Annie had first been "summoned," then quickly insulted, and finally forced to burn the three ill-intentioned ruffians and punish the red-haired young lady Felt, who had dared to bump into her.
And now, for some reason, Annie, Emilia, and the twin maids Ram and Rem had returned to this place once again.
The capital of the Kingdom of Re-Estize was enormous, with a population said to number in the hundreds of thousands. It was divided into five circular layers, collectively known as districts. Ordered from the top down, these five districts separated people of all kinds with the same strictness as the kingdom's feudal system.
At the very center of the capital, on the highest level, lay a plateau atop a terraced landform. Protected by a broad moat and the inner and outer walls built along it, this elevated stronghold on the hills and plains was a masterpiece of nature, easy to defend and difficult to attack. It belonged exclusively to the royal family: a heavily guarded and magnificent palace district at the heart of the kingdom.
The second layer, surrounding the palace district, was enjoyed by the kingdom's nobles and wealthy merchants, great and small.
The surroundings in this second layer were lovely, and the streets were not densely packed. Most of the area consisted of lavish mansions and estates belonging to nobles and wealthy merchants. There were also plenty of parks, forests, hills, and natural or artificial lakes for recreation. It was the best place to live after the palace district, and ordinary citizens were generally not allowed to enter freely.
The third layer was the bustling Commercial District.
