Annie had arrived in the Sanctuary two days ago. By now, she had a basic understanding of the place and had met quite a few of its residents. She had even visited and thoroughly ridiculed a certain clownish old man who was lying in bed, looking miserable as he pretended to be an invalid while recovering from his injuries.
That's right!
Annie had seen it at a glance. The clownish old man, Roswaal L. Mathers, really was injured, but his wounds weren't nearly as severe or dramatic as they looked. There was no need for him to lie in bed and pretend he could barely move.
Anyway, Annie knew he was only acting that way on purpose. Maybe he was just trying to shirk his work?
But...
Annie didn't want to meddle too much in that sort of thing. She'd come here at Ram and Rem's request to take that idiot Emilia back with her, not to visit the clownish old man or expose his little tricks.
The only thing that left Annie feeling rather helpless was that after she'd arrived at the Sanctuary and explained why she was there, that idiot Emilia still refused to leave.
Because Emilia said she wanted to save all the "Abhumans" and "Half-bloods" trapped in the Sanctuary.
A considerable number of them, like Emilia, were of mixed human and demon blood. In the outside world—especially in countries like Lugunica—they were targets of human prejudice and persecution.
And when it came to discrimination against Abhumans, half-beast people, and other mixed-bloods, Emilia was the one who could empathize most with those poor people trapped in the Sanctuary, unable to leave or interact with the outside world!
So she refused Annie's help and stubbornly insisted on staying in the Sanctuary.
