After dealing with the magic hammer incident, Coulson and Melinda were assigned by Nick Fury to go downstairs for task handovers. Now, the only ones still in the S.H.I.E.L.D. Director's office were the idle Annie and Director Nick Fury.
The Director's office was at the highest point of S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters, offering a clear view of the outside scenery and the indoor airport below. At this moment, the extremely bored Annie was pressed against the floor-to-ceiling glass of the office.
She was staring intently below, watching the S.H.I.E.L.D. ground crew in the hangar performing maintenance on those strange aircraft. Annie recognized those iron lumps—they were called planes! But these seemed a bit different from the ones she usually saw.
Just as Annie was getting bored and about to tell Uncle Black Charcoal Head she wanted to go out and play, she suddenly noticed the ground crew clearing a spot for one of the planes. Those people waved glowing sticks around for a bit, and then that strange plane started its engines, slowly lifted off vertically, and flew out through a steel door that opened in the middle of the building. As it flew, it gradually turned invisible? Before long, it completely vanished from little Annie's sight...
It could not only fly but also turn invisible!?
Even though it was only visual invisibility—its sound could still be heard, and her magical perception could clearly sense it—Annie still thought that was pretty impressive.
This kind of fun toy looked really entertaining. She suddenly wanted one... Annie clenched her little fists excitedly and bit her lip. She swore she would get one to play with, no matter what method she had to use! Even if it meant stealing!
These planes all belonged to this Uncle Black Charcoal Head, right? Annie turned around and looked at Director Nick Fury, who was sitting behind his desk.
She was thinking about what method to use to get a plane from him to play with. Oh no! She really shouldn't have called him Cyclops Black Charcoal Head earlier. What should she do now? Did she really have to steal it? But... it seemed a bit hard to bring herself to do it...
"Shut up, Tibbers! I'm not going to apologize to him!" Annie flatly rejected Tibbers' suggestion that she apologize.
Apologize? Not happening! Annie was always right! Besides, she hadn't said anything wrong earlier—he really was a one-eyed Black Charcoal Head! If he looked like that, he couldn't blame others for saying it, right?
After Coulson and Melinda left, Director Nick Fury began carefully observing little Annie, who was pressed against the glass watching the airport below. After a while, he concluded: She really did seem like a little girl! Watching her exclaim in surprise against the glass window at the airport below was adorable! Maybe he shouldn't have gotten angry with her earlier? After all, children say whatever comes to mind!
When he saw Annie turn to look at him, Nick Fury was about to casually chat with her to pass the time and ease the awkward atmosphere from their first meeting.
But before he could speak, two crisp knocks sounded at the office door, and a blonde middle-aged man in a suit walked in with a smile.
"Oh, Secretary Pierce! Welcome, welcome!" Nick Fury immediately stood up and hugged Pierce. This Pierce was no ordinary figure—he couldn't afford any negligence.
This Alexander Pierce was not only a senior S.H.I.E.L.D. official but also the former Director, an old acquaintance of Nick Fury. He now served as an assistant to Director Nick Fury and held the position of head of a key department.
"Haha, Nick Fury! Long time no see. Since you became Director, you've turned into a busy man. How about it? If you have time, let's grab a drink?" After finishing the hug, he began to tease.
"Pierce, you should know S.H.I.E.L.D. is swamped right now. All kinds of things keep popping up—I'm so busy I'm about to develop multiple personalities! I envy you instead. After stepping down, you must be much more relaxed, right? Look at you, much more energetic than before!" Nick Fury laughed and brushed it off.
"Oh? Is this the little girl Annie? How adorable!"
Pierce pretended to be surprised as he looked at the little girl standing by the floor-to-ceiling glass. As a senior S.H.I.E.L.D. secretary and an important member of the World Security Council, Pierce naturally had the authority to access Annie's file! So he knew all about Annie—those records were written in S.H.I.E.L.D.'s archives!
He had come because his subordinates reported that Coulson and Melinda had brought a little girl back to headquarters for debriefing! So he hurried over to check things out! And now, he finally had the chance to see this amazing alien little girl face-to-face.
"That's right, this is Annie! Annie, why don't you say hello to Uncle Pierce?" Nick Fury greeted Pierce with a full smile.
"Hello... nice to meet you!"
Annie looked at Nick Fury, then at Pierce, blinked, and suddenly revealed a sly smile. If someone who knew Annie better, like Coulson or Melinda, had been here, seeing that smile, they would know someone was about to have bad luck.
Annie had just been worrying about how to ask Uncle Black Charcoal Head for one of those invisible planes below!
Just as she was at a loss, she heard Tibbers say that this Earthling named Pierce had strong hostility toward her! Curious, she secretly cast a mind-reading spell on him. Annie was sure she didn't know him, so why would he be hostile? She really wanted to see why the little bear said this person meant her harm!
Mind reading worked perfectly on Earthlings with no magical resistance. Annie easily got everything she wanted from his mind! After skimming through it, Annie felt today was her lucky day—this was great! Her plane was finally within reach!
After finally dealing with Pierce and seeing him off, Nick Fury turned and let out a breath. But to his surprise, he found Annie looking at him with a smug smile. Confused, he checked his clothes and wiped his face—there didn't seem to be anything dirty on it.
"What's wrong, Annie? Is there a problem?" Nick Fury was puzzled. What was up with this little girl? Why was she acting so weird all of a sudden? What was so funny? And she was still laughing!
"Uncle Black Charcoal Head~!" Annie whined, drawing out her words, staring at him with ill intent. "How about we make a little deal? It'll be fun!"
"What deal? What do you want? Tell me first!" Nick Fury was a bit wary. His spy instincts told him this little girl was up to something, so he didn't blindly agree.
"You give me one of those invisible planes down there, and I'll give you some very important information—super important!" Annie emphasized the importance of the information.
"What? You want a Quinjet? No way! If you want to play on one, that's fine! But giving one to you? Absolutely not!" Nick Fury refused without a second thought. Was he kidding? Give a fighter jet to a little girl? Did she think S.H.I.E.L.D. was his personal property?
"Don't refuse so fast! I just used magic to look at that weird uncle's memories and found something very interesting! If you give me one of those planes outside, I'll tell you—totally worth it!" Annie pointed at the row of Quinjets on the tarmac below, looking very pleased.
"What? You can use magic to read people's memories?" Director Nick Fury stumbled back several steps in shock! Was this little girl that overpowered? She could read memories? Then had she already seen all the top-secret info in his head?
"Oh, that's not important! What's important is that weird uncle just now is up to no good with your S.H.I.E.L.D.! Are you sure you don't want to make a deal?"
Back in the Voodoo Lands, Annie had always wanted a flying mount. She could use flight magic, but flying herself was too tiring, wasted mana, and was very slow! The old dragon in the Voodoo Lands would have been the best choice, but it didn't know what was good for it and ended up getting burned by Annie!
After that, she hadn't found anything suitable, so the matter was put on hold.
Until she came to S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters, Annie had immediately set her sights on those planes called Quinjets—they could turn invisible, flew fast, and looked beautiful!
But because she had started off on the wrong foot with Uncle Black Charcoal Head, clashing right from the first meeting, she had hesitated for a long time without daring to ask. Annie had been holding it in, almost ready to just steal one! But then that weird uncle who just came gave her an opportunity.
"Oh? Then tell me first!" Nick Fury said noncommittally, keeping his distance warily to prevent her from using that memory-reading magic on him again.
"Hey! Annie! Are you sure the Director really gave it to you? No joke?" Back at the beach villa, Coulson and Melinda looked incredulously at the Quinjet parked on the villa's lawn. Annie was on top of it, directing the workers on the initial design and renovation plans.
Coulson even suspected that Annie might have used some mind-confusing magic on the Director! Otherwise, how could the Director possibly give a Quinjet to a little girl? Even if this little girl was special and powerful, there was no need to go that far, right?
"Of course! Uncle Black Charcoal Head is a trustworthy good person—he really did give me this plane!" Annie jumped down from the high hatch and casually gave Nick Fury a "good person" card.
Annie looked contentedly at her now-private plane. She decided to call it: the Princess Annie!
"So how did you do it? Can you tell us?" Coulson and Melinda were still dumbfounded.
"I made a little deal with Uncle Black Charcoal Head using some information!" Annie said smugly, looking at them. "And Uncle Black Charcoal Head said this has to be kept absolutely secret—can't tell anyone, including you."
"..." Coulson and Melinda's mouths twitched, momentarily speechless.
Keep it secret? She'd already said plenty she shouldn't have! It seemed the Director really had given her the plane! And they shouldn't dig any further into this—it might violate regulations!
After speaking, Annie suddenly floated up, circled the plane once, then drifted over to a worker who was terrified by her sudden flight magic. She demanded that the plane's exterior paint be changed to a flame-like red, because Annie loved the color of fire! That ugly gray paint job was way too hideous!
