The cliffside mountain where Stormveil Castle stood marked the border between Limgrave and Liurnia. One side faced the sea, while the other bordered Liurnia's towering cliffs. Stormveil Castle itself had been built atop the mountain.
At the foot of that sheer cliffside mountain lay the Liurnia Lake region. The castle had been built into the mountainside, making it easy to defend and difficult to attack, and it firmly controlled the route from Liurnia into Limgrave.
Clearly, both the Storm King from before the Age of the Erdtree and the Golden Dynasty from before and after the Shattering War had intended to use Stormveil Castle to keep watch over and guard this land route into Limgrave, preventing the Carian royal family from expanding south of Limgrave.
But that sort of thing didn't matter anymore. Stormveil and the Carian royal family were on good terms now, and both sides were preparing to cooperate and exchange knowledge in various areas. So Stormveil Castle's role in guarding Liurnia would certainly serve no purpose.
