ω` ) The Holy Path and the Curse
After more than a month of arduous travel, Millicent—once one of the "Rotten Maidens," now a "Maiden of Holy Light"—had finally made her way around the many obstacles of the Altus Plateau. She had journeyed north across the vast, bone-chilling snowfield and arrived at the northernmost point of the Lands Between: the town of the Haligtree, beneath the roots of the enormous "Haligtree."
Her long pilgrimage had not gone smoothly at first.
She had encountered all kinds of difficulties and met many people with differing motives: Cleanrot Knights succumbing to rot, mysterious Black Knife Assassins, hideous Abhumans, and other hostile beings. She had been forced to argue, negotiate, or fight with them.
Fortunately, with the aid of the Valkyrie's prosthesis and the powerful fighting techniques passed down to her as if through her bloodline, she had defeated everyone who tried to stop or ambush her, time and time again.
Yet most of the time, after defeating them, she would summon Holy Light to heal and cleanse them, to their astonishment. Naturally, that included the curses and rot afflicting them.
Some people didn't understand her actions. They continued to curse at her, mock her, or even try to attack her again. But no matter what, Millicent never argued back. She stubbornly defeated them once more, healed them, and then continued on her way.
And so she had struggled onward, stumbling through one hardship after another, until she reached the town of the Haligtree. There, on the Haligtree's great platform, she met Loretta, the "Haligtree Knight." After explaining her purpose to Loretta, her dire circumstances finally began to change in a fundamental way.
