Outside the city, bursts of explosions and faint shouts of battle rose and fell, carrying all the way to the Elden Throne. The golden-armored Leyndell knights, carrying enormous shields and spears, kept glancing anxiously toward the west, north, and east.
The battle for the royal capital had been raging for three whole days and nights.
From the sounds reaching them, it wasn't hard to guess how fierce the fighting was. They were constantly worried, so much so that even the knights on guard had become distracted.
Of course, what weighed on their minds most was that their Grace-Given King still showed no intention of emerging from the hollow behind the Elden Throne's Erdtree to take charge of the defenses. They were anxious and helpless.
The royal capital was in danger, yet their king stubbornly refused to show himself. What could they do?

While the guards fretted, the rumble of explosions continued to roll in, heedless of their feelings.

At the very end of the dark stairway behind the Elden Throne, where thorny growth barred anyone from entering, a strange figure sat cross-legged and motionless. He wore a filthy gray-brown robe that looked as though it hadn't been washed in ages. Omen horns covered his head, though more than a dozen near his eyes and brows had been cut off at the roots so they wouldn't obstruct his vision.
That's right!
The horn-covered figure was none other than Morgott, the legendary and revered "Grace-Given King" of Leyndell!
Of course, perhaps "Grace-Given King" wasn't quite right. Shouldn't he be called the "Omen King"?
