According to Isaac, after he returned, the family hadn't let up for a second once they boarded the shuttle. Claire's two sons, those little brats, had been arguing and fighting nonstop, running back and forth inside like two energetic little monkeys.
And it wasn't just arguing and fighting. They'd been throwing things around, too. The worst part was that one of the things they'd thrown had hit Isaac's control panel, causing an accidental input at a critical moment and preventing the shuttle from avoiding that region of folded space.
The shuttle then traveled more than a thousand light-years and suffered a hull breach. In the end, they had to make an emergency landing on a planet with an atmosphere.
There wasn't much more to say about what happened after that.
Isaac had become a machine nanny, looking after those two "little monkeys" while searching for the missing ship's doctor, Claire. Eventually, after plenty of twists and turns, they ended up fighting the local natives. If the Orville hadn't received their distress signal and arrived in time to rescue them, Isaac might well have been torn apart by the endless hordes of native humans.
And so, after a harrowing wilderness survival trip on an alien planet, Isaac and the rest of Claire's family made it back to the Orville safe and sound. They then used the ship's advanced technology to help the planet's human population resolve a biochemical crisis. That was more or less a great deed, too.
