Although Captain Ed's decision to risk taking the Orville into two-dimensional space had been somewhat reckless, the facts ultimately proved that his judgment had been relatively sound and appropriate.
While inside that two-dimensional space, the Orville had certainly gone through a series of twists and turns and nearly failed to escape. But it had only nearly failed. In the end, they had made it out successfully and brought the Planetary Union firsthand information about the two-dimensional world, leaving the entire Union deeply shaken.
Word had it that the few hours' worth of data the Orville had brought back would give countless scientists at the Planetary Union's Academy of Sciences enough material to discuss and write papers about for years. It was one of the greatest discoveries of the age, wasn't it?
And likewise, the Orville, Captain Ed, and the others would surely go down in history, wouldn't they?
Of course, Annie didn't know the details, and she hadn't really bothered to ask.
All she knew was that after they'd escaped that two-dimensional space in a game of cosmic hide-and-seek, several cruisers from the Planetary Union fleet had arrived to escort the Orville to a space station. There, they'd held several award banquets and parties over the next few days. She'd had a great time eating and drinking along with everyone else, and only after she'd started getting a little bored had the Orville finally set off again, resuming its survey of unknown regions and aimless wandering around the outer reaches of Planetary Union space.
And so!
While the Orville was wandering through space, Annie was naturally wandering all over the ship as well. Today, out of sheer boredom, she'd wandered back to the bridge.
