Although she'd been hesitant when everyone brought it up yesterday, Doric was ultimately a kind-hearted Druid, so early the next morning, she resolutely said goodbye to Edgin, Simon, and Holga, and prepared to set off for Revel's End and the Mere of Dead Men to investigate.
After all, she had been raised by the Wood-elves of Neverwinter Wood. If those kind Wood-elves hadn't taken her in, she, a Tiefling foundling, would have starved to death long ago! And if Neverwinter were destroyed by the evil Red Wizards of Thay, then, with the city gone, Neverwinter Wood and its Wood-elves—which fell under Neverwinter's rule—would surely be unable to protect their forest home either. So, both for public duty and personal reasons, Doric had to go and do everything she could to uncover the conspiracy against Neverwinter.
"Well, I'm heading out first?"
"Simon!"
"You really don't need to go to the crossroads fortress to provide backup. I'll be fine!"
"It'll only take two or three days at most. I can be back in Neverwinter by then. You might not even have reached the fortress yet!"
"Forget it."
"That's settled, then. I'm off!"
After saying that, Doric realized she probably couldn't talk Simon out of it, and had no way to change some of Edgin's plans. So she simply stopped arguing, nimbly leaped onto the castle's high wall, and took one last look back. Then, amid the gasps of everyone there and the Neverwinter guards on duty nearby, she spread her arms and jumped straight down toward the streets below.
And then!
Just before she hit the ground and was smashed into a bloody pulp, she suddenly twisted around and transformed into a swift. In full view of everyone, she beat her wings and soared into the sky. The rush of wind and
