Chapter 2447: (ˊˋ) The Shadow of Death Approaches

Just as Neverwinter's chancellor, Edgin, was busily spending the seemingly endless supply of gold and coordinating the construction of Neverwinter, the restoration of Neverwinter Keep, the strengthening of the city walls and defenses, and the expansion of the army, a guard's report threw all his plans into disarray.
Apparently, an injured sun elf mage had brought important intelligence back from Leilon and needed to meet with their Queen Annie immediately?
But the idea that he could meet with Annie was obviously absurd.
After all, even Edgin had no idea where Annie had gone off to have fun this time, much less when she would be back!
So, given that the man said he had come from Leilon, and considering the unfortunate fact that Henck and Doric had gone there to investigate and still hadn't returned or sent any word, as well as his claim that he had "important intelligence," Edgin decided to put aside his work and hear what he had to say.

When the sun elf mage, Gareth, was half-carried into the council hall by Neverwinter's guards, covered in wounds, Edgin took one look at his battered condition and felt his heart sink. Something was very wrong.
Then, after hearing the few short sentences in which the man explained what had happened—especially when he heard that two black dragons had attacked Leilon, followed by a massive army of undead that surrounded the town and caused it to fall almost instantly—Edgin was so shocked that he shot to his feet, disbelief written all over his face.
