In the end, Ash angrily protested and refused to let Annie actually eat his precious Charizard—the highest-level Pokémon he had raised so far!
Even though Misty and Tracey both thought Annie was only joking and had no intention of actually eating his Pokémon, Ash still acted as though he'd been threatened. He glared at Annie warily and furiously, ready to guard Charizard day and night and take care of him every possible way until he'd fully recovered.
Seeing there was no Charizard to eat, and realizing the three of them might be delayed on that unnamed island for a whole day or two, Annie naturally had no intention of staying behind to wait. Once she saw there was nothing for her to do, she set off alone again on her Orange Islands trip, eating her way from place to place, and continued filling out her Trainer's Handbook, written by the strongest Pokémon trainer.
After all, she had only three badges so far and still needed one more to complete the set. If she wanted to enter the upcoming Orange League tournament and prove that she was the strongest Pokémon trainer in the entire world—stronger than the strongest, stronger than the strongest—then she definitely needed to head for the next island and find the last Orange League Gym.
And Ash and the others needed to do the same!
However, since they had to care for Charizard, who'd suffered frostbite, they might have to put off setting out for another day or two.
But, surprisingly, after Ash had stayed by Charizard's side and cared for him attentively for an entire day and night, perhaps moved by Ash's sincerity—or perhaps because Charizard had finally had a change of heart—
Whatever the reason!
His efforts paid off. The next morning, Charizard finally accepted him
