After several days of traveling nonstop, Annie, Elena, and the others had finally made it from Pieta, a small town in the far north, to this place—a vast, magnificent city divided into several layers and districts.
Of course, "vast" was relative. It was only a few, or perhaps a dozen, times bigger than an ordinary town.
Even so, it was already quite impressive by the standards of this continent. Otherwise, Annie wouldn't have chosen it in particular and done everything she could to persuade Elena and the others to come here.
Annie and Elena had been here before, and the head of the city guard still recognized them. On top of that, there were no longer any Yoma running rampant in the city. So when they entered, the guards only gave them a cursory inspection. After they paid a hefty deposit—thanks to the power of money—the guards turned a blind eye to Annie bringing twenty-six fully armed guards into the city. They even let them keep the weapons on their backs.
After all, wherever you went, rules were usually just a way to make life difficult for ordinary people. The rich and powerful always had a few privileges—or some other way around them.

They found the manager of the luxurious hotel and explained that they wanted to buy or rent a place. He eagerly showed them around, and that very day they bought a luxurious manor in the inner city, nestled against the mountains.
