At the same time, the soldiers at the abandoned mining base nestled among the mountains were still busy and fighting fiercely all around the base, both inside and out.

Although the demons had yet to reach the base's perimeter, the battle had already begun.

Countless Marines, armored vehicles, tanks, and aircraft were continually being dispatched to the outskirts of the base to fight the armies of Warp Daemons gradually closing in. Every so often, Medivacs brought back squads of wounded or depleted troops, then hurriedly carried out other squads of ready reserves to the edge of the red fog—or straight into it.

Meanwhile, the Siege Tank batteries deployed in Siege Mode and the missile-launching armored vehicles had not let up for even a moment. They roared without pause, firing large-caliber shells and missiles in every direction around the base as if they cost nothing. From the distant horizon came one thunderous explosion after another, great and small.

And the enormous mushroom clouds and fireballs that periodically rose into the sky in one direction or another? There was even less to say about those!

Ever since the ground battle began, the base had been using its fusion weapons without pause, especially the low-yield fusion missiles.

This was particularly true after the reconnaissance teams reported back and revealed where the demons had gathered, or when Ghost Operatives used low-frequency lasers to designate a location. Those terrifying area-effect weapons kept launching into the sky and hurtling toward distant targets, soon giving rise to enormous orange-red fireballs on the horizon.

Fortunately, Khorne's demons disdained ranged weapons, the twisted Psykers had no ability to fight beyond visual range, and the weapons of this planet's ground forces had mostly been lost or exhausted. Otherwise, whether the mining base could hold out would have been anyone's guess!
