In the time that followed, the Warp Daemons began launching wave after wave of attacks on the mining base, like a raging tide.
No one knew what had happened. Perhaps the daemons had been enraged by the fusion strike that some troublesome little girl of a head of state and that robot big sister, Mulan, had carried out on the center of Guixu City. Or perhaps it was the base's widespread precision strikes?
Whatever the cause!
The Warp Daemons seemed to have gone mad. They no longer tried to gather and form orderly ranks for large-scale assaults. Instead, they broke into smaller groups and attacked the human mining base from all directions, day and night.
They were disorganized and had no formation, like a horde of terrifying madmen. They charged hysterically at the human defenses, night after night and day after day, straight into the base's defensive fire. Either the defenders' fire tore them to pieces on the spot, or they reached the defenders' ranks and ripped the soldiers to pieces.
Faced with this sudden and bizarre situation, the mining base's commanders at every level were naturally confused and worried. The daemons' behavior seemed abnormal.
However, with the enemy outnumbering them, even if the daemons had some kind of scheme, there was little the humans could do. They could only grit their teeth and defend with all their might, issuing orders from the base's Command Center and bringing every defensive installation and weapon system up to full capacity. They also had squads of Marines dropped by Medivacs onto the hard-pressed front lines, where they tried to hold back the daemons' hysterical, frenzied assaults.
Meanwhile, the enormous shells from the Siege Tanks that had already shifted into their stationary forms inside the base, missiles of every type, the dwindling stockpile of
