Whatever the case, one of Base Commander Darius's wishes soon came true.
Because, to his utter astonishment, barely two days had passed, and before they could even devise an effective plan to deal with the enemy, those wily Warp Daemons had opened a Warp Rift at the very bottom of their mine base, in the refugee residential zone. A huge number of demons and all sorts of monsters had poured out in an instant, and were now battling their rapid-response force deep in the mine.
Clearly, this had to be the Warp Daemons' scheme!
Before this, they had sent countless demons to throw themselves at the base and its outer outposts and positions, attacking day and night without any organization or planning. The whole point had been to cover up their sinister, cunning plan!
Of course, they had probably also intended to wear down the base, exhaust the soldiers, and undermine their morale.
Whatever the case, the enemy's scheme had worked!
At that moment, the base was already critically short on manpower. Both the soldiers and the equipment were running at full capacity. Then the enemy had struck them hard from within the base, leaving the officers and staff stunned, as if they'd been hit over the head.
The Warp Daemons' even more cunning move was to open the Warp Rift at the very bottom of the mine, beneath the refugee residential zone. The space there was cramped and unsuitable for deploying heavy equipment. And with three or four hundred thousand refugees to consider, the base could not use powerful bombs or fusion weapons against the demons surging up from underground. They
