As the sky began to brighten and the sun over Canopy Star finally rose in the west, perhaps both sides were exhausted from fighting, perhaps one side had suffered too many losses, or perhaps there was some other reason.

The fighting in the western part of Guixu City gradually died down. Humans and demons alike began to hold their fire, maintaining only a cautious stance and the bare minimum of exchanges before retreating behind their own territory and defensive lines to lick their wounds and dig in.

On the surface, it seemed the human side hadn't gained much of an advantage. But the humans had seized most of the western district after a night of fierce fighting, and Viking fighters still roared across the skies over Guixu City from time to time. Banshees appeared and vanished without warning, while heavily armed Liberator gunships continued their intense bombardment. The demons no longer dared gather or show themselves in the streets. It was easy to see that despite being vastly outnumbered by the Warp Daemons, the humans of the Mine Base still held the initiative and the advantage.

And in fact, that was exactly the situation.

The Mine Base had ordered its forces to halt their advance partly because the soldiers were exhausted and needed to be redeployed, rotated, and given time to consolidate their current lines. More importantly, however, it was hampered by a severe shortage of troops. This was especially true when its forces were already at a disadvantage and still had to grit their teeth and fight attritional street battles against the cruel, savage Warp Daemons and Chaos monsters.
