The battle between humans and daemons on Canopy Star had dragged on for a full three months. During that time, the troublesome little girl who was the head of state naturally hadn't gone anywhere. She'd stayed holed up aboard the Noxus in orbit.

Naturally, she hadn't spent the whole time on the bridge, operating the secondary batteries to bombard the planet from orbit. There was no way she would fight the Warp Daemons day and night like the Warriors on the ground.

She'd spent a lot of time on the bridge during the first two days. For most of the following two months, though, she'd either wandered around the ship or played holographic simulations in her own room. Sometimes, she'd role-play in the base's recruit-training simulations and give the green recruits a thorough education. Only every now and then did she visit the bridge to operate the secondary batteries and help out on the ground.

Even so, she'd made a huge difference to the "Three-Month Campaign" on the planet's surface!

Her precise bombardments had not only prevented a great many friendly casualties, but had also dealt the daemons grievous blows at crucial moments, deciding the outcome of several key battles. In the end, after three months, they had secured a basic victory in the struggle between the base and humanity on the ground.

It was only a "basic" victory because, although humanity and the base had recaptured or bombed most of the cities and rescued nearly ten billion survivors, the daemons still firmly occupied nearly half the planet's land and a third of its towns. The red fog shrouding the planet still covered at least a third of its surface, and large numbers of Warp Daemons, corrupted Psykers, Chaos monsters, and Mutants warped and corrupted by the Warp's Chaos energy
