As expected, the vicious slash from Sejanus, captain of the Fourth Company of the XVI Legion, cut straight through empty air. He hadn't hit anything at all.
Of course, it was fortunate he hadn't actually hit anything. Otherwise, things might have gotten very ugly.
Still, even though he'd missed, the "mechanical" woman had been surrounded by those "Shadowmoon Wolves" Astartes before she went invisible. Then, while escaping the encirclement, she'd been forced to leap away. So even after vanishing, she was quickly tracked by Sejanus and the others through the distortion in the air, the faint sound of her landing, and the disturbance in the airflow. They pursued her into the still-standing steel building ruins scattered throughout the town, firing noisily all the while.
The two sides then naturally began a fierce chase through the complex ruins of the battered but still-standing buildings.
"Fierce" might have been putting it strongly. Since Sejanus and his men were humans, not Warp Daemons, for some reason the "mechanical" woman never used the brutal methods she'd used against the daemons to deal with them.
She did nothing but dodge and flee, launch feints, and, when she had no other choice, use a few EMP attacks to stun and disrupt them, hoping to seize an opportunity to escape the encirclement. She never directly used the weapon on her back or her terrifying monomolecular light blade.
Unfortunately, the dozens of Astartes with Sejanus weren't ordinary men. Not only were they immensely strong and quick to react, they also had extraordinary senses and even certain unusual psychic abilities. On top of that, they had powerful weapons like Bolters. In the end, the "mechanical" woman failed to escape the attack of their dozens-strong Astartes squad. She was trapped in a field
