After finishing a call with a colonel who looked somewhat familiar and hastily humoring him with a few casual remarks before hanging up, Annie—who hadn't paid the slightest attention to what the call had been about from beginning to end—turned once more toward the suspicious-looking weirdo. He had deliberately lured her here, and she had finally cornered him in this secluded alley, on a street that still bore the shattered remnants of the Cataclysm.

Actually, Annie had noticed him following her sneakily through the streets of Ruins City right from the start. He was just as up to no good as she was.

She simply hadn't cared much at the time.

She was often followed by demons, monsters, mutants, Psykers, idiots controlled by demons, or members of various cults. She was so used to having bad guys tail her that she generally couldn't be bothered to do much about it.

But was this one different?

Her pursuer wasn't a demon, but an ordinary human. He didn't appear to be controlled or corrupted, and his mind seemed clear. He was also quite powerful—roughly on the same level as the female demon who had ambushed her back then, or maybe even a little stronger.

Most importantly, he didn't seem to have much hostility toward her.

That made things pretty interesting.
