As everyone knew, this vast and boundless sea of stars—the galaxy—was both the cradle of life and the lair where countless strange Xenos, alien races, and evil forces lurked. It was a place of endless conflict, where countless races and lives were born, developed, flourished, and eventually descended into the abyss of destruction, repeating the cycle without end.
As the first company captain of the XVI Legion, the Shadowmoon Wolves, Abaddon the Despoiler had followed the Emperor of Mankind and the Primarch on the Great Crusade across the galaxy for countless years. He had seen or heard of many secrets and strange tales unknown to ordinary people.
Even legendary monsters?
Those beings either came from ancient legends and had existed billions of years ago, were born in unknown voids, or lurked on the distant edges of the galaxy. In short, every one of them was enough to make ordinary mortals shudder.
That was no exaggeration!
For example, it was said that in certain dark corners of the universe, there existed uncountable numbers of space locusts. Like greedy beasts of darkness, their sole purpose was to devour all life and reproduce endlessly. They were a plague of locusts upon the universe, leaving nothing but emptiness wherever they passed.
Then, on some dead worlds at the edges of the galaxy, ancient Zombie robots were said to be hiding in slumber. They had once been masterpieces of some ancient intelligent life-form, but most of them now lay dormant. Once those Zombie robots awakened, however, they would surely exterminate every life-form in the galaxy and plunge the entire universe into eternal silence.
More terrifying still were the cosmic gods who had lived as long as the stars.
It was said that they possessed power beyond mortal understanding, yet delighted in using that dreadful power
