Today was the third day since Horus's fleet had landed on Canopy Star and launched its attack.
Just like on the first day, the landing forces of Horus's fleet surged across almost the entire surface of Canopy Star like an unstoppable flood of steel.
Clad in gray-white power armor emblazoned with the image of a wolf on their shoulders, and armed with Bolters, Chainswords, Power Axes, and other melee weapons, the Astartes advanced in firm, steady strides under the cover of vast numbers of Imperialis Militia, Adeptus Mechanicus priests, and other armored troops. They launched one fierce assault after another against their opponents—including Canopy Star's planetary defense forces, the Orks, and the Warp Daemons—and soon seized one stretch of land and one city after another.
Though their ground-based opponents were numerous and formidable, they were clearly no match for the fleet's guns. Even without saturation orbital bombardment, the Macro-cannons and lances were more than enough to reduce to ash any enemy foolish enough to stand in the path of the Astartes' advance.
Thus, in a mere three days, the vast hordes of Warp Daemons had been routed across the front by the terrifying firepower of Horus's fleet. Their dark, chaotic powers were pitifully weak in the face of orbital bombardment. Even the planetary defense forces, reorganized into a Star Sector force and well-equipped as they were, had been steadily driven back by the "Shadowmoon Wolves," whose attacks were supported by orbital bombardment and all manner of heavy and light weapons. They had no choice but to surrender huge swathes of their original defensive lines and territory to the enemy.
